((K. Break from the WWII story. Here's a Matt story!))
It was 8 o'clock on a Saturday morning, first day of summer. Far too late for Matt Brookes to be sleeping, or at least that's what his younger sister decided. Angelle walked up the stairs as fast as her small legs could take her. She stopped for a moment trying to open the door, but finally succeeded. The minute she spotted the sleeping form of her oldest brother, she squeeled and jumped on the bed.
“Up! Up, up!” She yelled, jumping up and down on the brown haired boy.
“Stop it!” Matt mumbled, trying to push his two year old sister off of him.
“No! Zoo!” The little girl laughed, finally calming down and sitting in front of Matt's face.
“Uhg. Breakfast first.” Matt complied, dragging himself out of bed and standing still for a few seconds to get his bearings. This was a second too long for the blond haired girl, for she grabbed her brother's hand.
“Waffles!” She stated emphatically, pointing in the direction of the kitchen. Matt just nodded and started out on his trek to the kitchen.
When the two finally reached the kitchen table, Matt had finally woken up enough to keep his eyes open. Matt's mother looked up in surprise. “Well. I didn't expect to see ya up so early, Matty.” She said, putting a plate of pancakes in front of him.
Matt shook his head and pointed to Angelle. “Blame this little hellion.” He told his mother. Catherine Brookes gave Angelle a stern look. “Let Matty sleep, dear. He's tired.” She told the little girl, who nodded.
“Why can't I have the right to sleep late?” Matt's younger brother, Ben, asked as he walked in.
“Because you don't go to freak school, Benjie.” A girl's voice stated. Matt looked up and saw his older sister come through the front door. Felicity lived in an apartment with her friend, and Matt wished she just stay there all the time.
Rolling his eyes, Matt took a bite of his pancakes. “Shut it, Licy.” He mumbled, not in the mood to deal with her.
“Why do you always mumble? You're weird enough as it is.” Felicity continued, a smug look on her face. Matt looked at his mother, his eyes pleading for her to shut his sister up.
“Eat your pancakes, Licy.” Catherine told her daughter, plopping a plate in front of the blonde.
“Can I go with you and Gelle to the zoo?” Ben asked Matt, sitting down next to him. No matter how much his older sister seemed to hate him, Matt's younger siblings made up for it in the amount they adored him.
Matt nodded and smiled at his brother. “Yep. I just need to change first.” He said, getting up from the table and bringing his plate over to the sink.
Five minutes later, Matt walked down the stairs, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, and ready to ride the bus to the zoo. Angelle clapped her hands and grabbed his hand, eager to be off. Listening calmly while his mother gave him the spill about safety, Matt was mentally preparing himself to spend the afternoon looking after his younger siblings... a very tiring job.
“Well, just tell Da we're off to to the zoo, and I'll help him in the yard when I get back.” Matt yelled over his shoulder.
“Watch out, Benjie! He might charm the snakes out of the cages!” Felicity yelled from the study.
Smirking, Matt looked in the door. “And I'll tell them right where to find you.” He said with an evil grin.
