Summer was coming to a close, but that didn't stop Carey Howard from enjoying himself as well as still being the optimistic boy he always was. Being on holiday was a good thing - and although his 6th year went by very fast, it was chock full of work, drama and all sorts of other things from every aspect of his life that made his vacation a figurative (and literal) sigh of relief. And with the itinerary he had planned for his seventh and final year at Hogwarts, he might as well have started breathing a lot easier now while he had the time and space.
It was the ideal summer night. Dressed in taupe-colored shorts and looking as relaxed as ever, he was lying on a blanket set on the dock that led to the extended lake at Waltham, his parents' vacation "estate" in the country. With his eyes closed and hands folded against his bare chest - the shirt was too much for the heat - he looked like he was sleeping, his dark hair falling into his eyes as the wind swept it to the side. The weather was so perfect - cool and breezy, not too hot - and the sun was just about to set, giving the atmosphere such a picture-esque and romantic feel to it. All he needed was a pretty girl with him, then it would be even sweeter and meaningful as it was meant to be - after all, the scene was set.
...well, Dessy was pretty, but they weren't involved like that.
They had been friends for a really long time, ever since the start of their first year at Hogwarts, and they had only grown closer over the years. His family adored her too, and she had always been invited over their house to stay and even go on vacation with them - which is where they were now. Mr. and Mrs. Howard had chided him all morning to propose to her already since they were "going to get married eventually", and Carey just rolled his eyes as they made the remark once again as he proceeded out the back door to meet her at the dock.
Opening his eyes momentarily, Carey turned his head and squinted at his best friend. Come to think of it, they hadn't really said a word to each other in the last couple of minutes, perhaps just choosing to revel in the calm sounds of nature while they had the chance to. They were scheduled to leave in a few and go back to London within the next few days to prepare for school. "I wish we had pretty nights like this all the time," he remarked, opening his eyes more to look at her and smiling, his features so soft to match his voice. "I hope you had a good time, Des."

One of the greatest things in the world about being close friends with someone with a loving and caring family was the fact that said family more then likely would treat their childrens' friends much the same way they would their own children. It was always the same each summer. The Howard family would invite Des along for their family vacation, and when the redhead wasn't due to spend time with her brother- which wasn't often- she'd instead spend it with Carey's family. This year had been no exception to such a thing. While before summer term had started, Matty had sent word that her might get the time off, something had come up and therefor had emptied Dessy's entire schedule for the summer season. So without hesitation- and a good bit of hiding how disappointed she'd been at first- she accepted the offer to head to the Howard's summer home.
After the school year she'd had, a good vacation had been desperately needed. The work load in the past school year had been enough to make Des feel as if se'd been suffocating, especially towards the end of the year. It had been all work, hardly any social time with anyone at all, and it had just been a bit too much. So getting away from everything, needless to say, had been a blessing. Of course, the occasional suggestion about the Ravenclaw pair currently laid out on the dock needing to get married was slightly flustering, but it never seemed to change anything or cause anything more then a roll of the eyes or red cheeks. Really, the more Des thought about it, the more amusing it got, though right now didn't seem like the time for such thoughts. After all, she and Carey were currently laid out on the dock, beneath the setting sun, and caught in a rather romantic scene all together. Yet despite what people said or thought, Carey and Dessy were just friends.
The pair had been quiet for a while now, though this didn't seem to create any awkwardness, for Des at least. The fact that Carey was even laying next to her shirtless for all the world to see didn't bother her in the least little bit. After all, she wasn't in any better condition what with her shorts and her swimsuit top. Her hair had been pulled up off her neck at some point early on in the day and was now starting to fall loose in places, just a few strands here and there falling to frame her face, or rather be tossed about by the breeze now. All in all, it had been quite the day, and it was ending rather well to boot. Still, the redhead was rather pleased when the silence was broken between the two of them. "Me too..." she replied with a sigh, allowing her eyes to fall closed for a moment. "I wish the weather would stay like this all the time." A smile touched her lips and her head turned to the side in order for her to look at the closest of her friends. "I did have a good time. Much better then anything Matty could have come up with." her smile broadened into a grin with those words, amusement dancing in her eyes.
((Wow, that's bad...stupid distracting movies...xD))

Yep, if the weather had always been so lovely and cool all the time, life would seem so much calmer. What happened outside within nature and the elements influenced Carey's mood a lot - he was an outdoors person as much as he was an indoors person (though some people would argue he was more of a stay-inside kind of guy due to his behavior in school). If he could breathe in crisp, fresh air every day, he'd be much better off in terms of his own health, as well as more relaxed than he already was around everyone else. Nodding, he voiced this opinion out loud to her. "We'd probably be less stressed and healthier if it was this nice out all the time, too."
Looking at her and sitting up as he did so, Carey couldn't help but smile. Adessa's serenity always had an automatic effect on him whenever they were together - their sweetness was basically an overload for any of their other friends, and that sort of factor didn't actually help the case of their questionable friendship. Wiping the thought from his mind, he absentmindedly reached his hand over and carefully brushed the piece of her reddish hair that the wind had pushed from its stable placement and away from her eyes. "I'm glad you did...and you know my family loves you. I'd have hated for you to spend the summer alone." He was sincerely sorry about Matty not being able to follow through again, but he chose not to apologize for that to her, since he probably wouldn't hear the end of her lecture about how it isn't his fault and how he doesn't need to feel sorry.
He caught the amusement in her eyes and couldn't help but snicker at the next thought that came to mind. "Well, you know me, I totally commanded the elements to make this picture perfect. You know, since my parents are so convinced about you-know-what." It was such a mistake for him to tell his mother about his childhood crush on Des; and of course, even his twin sister couldn't help but gush at the idea when it was mentioned at dinner prior to their arrival at Waltham. He and Dessy thought it was fairly amusing, though - parents were so crazy and predictable. "I think that we should make something funny up, just to indulge them. My mother would probably faint."
The boy laughed, then giving a serious exhale while turning on his side so he could actually fully face her. Luckily none of their friends from school lived around here, else if they did see this sight, they would also be in some weird frenzy. Carey all shirtless, and Dessy in shorts and a bikini top...it would make the gossip thread at Hogwarts. Carey laughed again at the thought, pushing the seriousness of it all out of his mind for the time being. "Just tell me though, why does every girl get all giddy whenever a new spark is lit, even if it's just a figment of their imagination? I mean, I understand just about everything else in life, but I still don't get that." Oh yes, he was such a typical Ravenclaw - and she would probably remind him about that, all while poking fun at him.

A soft sound of agreement was made in the back of Dessy's throat due to the comment of their stress level. Once again the redhead's eyes closed and she took a moment to absorb another breeze that passed over them. This year's vacation had indeed been one of the best she'd had, and truthfully she wasn't ready to delve back into school. There were a variety of different reasons for this, though the one freshest in her mind was simply because it meant loads of school work and less time spent with her best friend. She absolutely adored the time she and Carey got to spend together outside of school, if only because they were free to be more like themselves rather then school-drones. Granted, somewhere in the back of Des' mind she knew this wasn't the only reason, but she was quite content to push that thought aside for now and she quiet easily allowed her eyes to re-open so that she could gaze off once again.
The hand that reached across the short span of distance between them to brush the hair from her face startled Dessy, though only slightly. It caused her to blink a few times, though that was about the only signs of her startlement. She'd been lost somewhere in thought for the moment and the movement had quickly brought her back to the present. Her head turned once again and she offered Carey a fond smile of thanks, though left her words for responses, "It was nice to spend time with people who actually have the time to be together. Especially when those people take the time to gush over me occasionally." her smile broadened into another grin and she shifted herself so that she was laying on her side in order to face him completely. "I have to admit, its kind of nice to be spoiled with attention every once in a while. But you didn't hear me say that. After all, I'm no attention hog."
A soft, mocking gasp left the redhead's lips and her head turned a bit so that she could glance about, "I knew there was something fishy about this scene! I should have known this was all your doing. After all, it isn't allowed for us to just lay out here in the perfect weather together. Oh no, no..we have to be plotting to elope and plotting our entire lives together." she laughed here, collapsing back onto her side. After a moment, she regained her grin and nodded in agreement to his words once again, "I think you're right, though. We should cook something up to tell them while we're out here. Set up a whole fiasco. I'd love to see the reaction we got."
Of course, with Carey's more serious question, Dessy's smile faded ever so slightly. A thoughtful and fairly serious expression of her own took over her features and she rolled herself back onto her back, though then proppd herself up on her elbows. Her brow creased slowly as her eyes squinted to gaze at the last bit of light in the horizon. The color of the sky was dancing across both their skins, though Des couldn't pay that any mind at the moment. "There's something special about finding someone who's perfect for you. Someone who's always there for you, listens to you, and aims to take care of you just as you do them no matter what. The idea of a perfect romance settles in every girl's mind at a young age, and when such a thing makes itself even faintly present- even if its not for that girl even- they get excited. The idea that someone is finding what ever girl eventually seeks is a very magical and touching thing." Her head turned here so that it was laid against her shoulder and her eyes were on him once again, "So what's not to get giddy and excited about?"
